after they received treatment at the chinese pla general hospital in beijing on march 22, the second group of four children with congenital heart disease (chd) from puge county in liangshan yi autonomous prefecture, sichuan province, have remained in stable condition.
the four children were diagnosed during a free chd screening program sponsored by china energy foundation in puge county at the end of 2021. they are from impoverished families, so china energy foundation pledged to bear all treatment expenses beyond the coverage of the national basic health insurance to make sure each of them receives timely and effective assistance and prevent them from returning to poverty due to illness.
china energy always attaches great importance to health care in minority areas. its public welfare foundation has provided training for rural doctors and carried out free chd screening and treatment programs for children in puge county for three consecutive years since 2019. more than 16,900 children aged 0-18 have benefited from the programs, including 17 diagnosed children who have been treated with good results. these efforts have greatly helped to improve the health and living quality of children in minority areas.
